Produced in France, with a world map motif, this rare lacquered metal cigarette case, has long been a feature of our favourite instagram photography. The world map itself is somewhat distorted in its shape and location of countries, with land mass depicted in metal and water in lacquer. Using a hand-painted, angular font, sixteen countries are displayed, including Paris, Hanoi, Dakar, Caracas and San Francisco among others. The brush strokes are visible, with a deep black colour that matches the lacquer across the case. The case remains in good vintage condition, with lights marks throughout consistent with age and use.

Measuring at 11.5 x 8.2cm the case is made from metal with a hinge integrated on the left side, and a push button release to the right. A “Made in France” hallmark is carried on the upper lip, along with the numbers “382” and “375” on the right and left sides respectively. A full-width and decoratively produced retaining bar is hinged over the right side of the case, originally intended to hold cigarettes in place on the move. In recent years these highly collectable cases have seen an increase in popularity, whether that be for their original intention or re-purposed to carry business cards.
